In the ancient town of Castroreale, there’s a unique olive variety that locals call “Nustrali,” meaning “our own”.
The official name for this nearly extinct variety is Castriciana Rapparina or Castricianella, a cultivar native to the municipality of Castroreale and deeply rooted in its history.
It’s not just cornerstone in the town’s heritage, but a part of its identity.
Even for us at Castruriali, obtaining Nustrali olives for pressing is a significant challenge due to their scarcity. Additionally, acquiring information about this variety is difficult.
The majority of our revenue is re-invested into research, planting new trees and restoring existing olive groves. This commitment ensures the sustainability of our practices for future generations.
Our dedication to quality means that Nustrali is handpicked locally from our own groves and cold-pressed within hours to preserve its nutritional integrity. This careful process ensures that we maintain the highest standards without compromising on taste. The result is an exceptional extra virgin olive oil with ultra-high polyphenol content, naturally lower in acidity and numerous health benefits, including potent antioxidant properties
While the Nustrali is our flagship product, due to its rarity and the very limited amount we can produce, it is not sold publicly yet.
Our work is focused on cultivating and promoting this variety, preserving it for future generations and highlighting its significance, both locally and beyond.
We are obligated to preserving the heritage and quality of the Castriciana Rapparina cultivar and are in the process of applying for DOP certification from the EU. This recognition will ensure that our extra virgin olive oil meets the highest standards of regional authenticity and excellence.
